Tell Us Where You Are Today
- Dynamics GP Since 1993
- 80 Years Combined Experience
- In Business Since 1989
- No Obligation, No Sales Pressure
The Argus free business assessment is a structured review of your existing accounting and financial system, carrying a $1,500 value at no cost and no obligation. It identifies unused modules you already own, manual processes that could be automated, and configuration problems causing reporting errors. You finish with a written scope and an estimate.
What This Actually Is
It is not a sales call with a different name on it. Nobody is going to spend forty minutes qualifying your budget and then email you a brochure.
A senior consultant looks at the system you already run. What modules are switched on, which ones you paid for and never turned on, which processes your team still does by hand, and where the platform is quietly costing you hours every single month.
Most companies running Dynamics GP use about 30% of what the platform can do. The other 70% is already licensed, already paid for, and sitting there unconfigured. A good share of the problems people call us about turn out to be things their system could already fix, which is a much cheaper conversation than the one they were expecting to have.
Sometimes the honest recommendation is to change nothing. That happens, and we say so.
What the Assessment Covers
Six areas, every time. You get findings on all of them whether or not you end up working with us.
Modules you own but never turned on
Fixed assets, analytical accounting, project accounting, requisitions, workflow approvals. The licence is usually already sitting in the system. We list what is live, what is dormant, and what switching it on would actually change for your team.
Manual work the system should be doing
Re-keying from one system into another. Spreadsheets that exist purely to reformat a GP report. Month-end steps that live in one person’s head. We map where the hours go and which of them are recoverable through configuration.
Reporting you have stopped trusting
When a report never reconciles, the cause is usually a setup decision nobody documented, not an accounting mistake. We trace the numbers back to where the configuration went wrong, including chart of accounts and fund accounting structure.
Integrations and how fragile they are
Payroll, AP automation, banking, CRM, e-commerce, inventory. Which connections are supported, which are held together by a scheduled task somebody wrote years ago, and what breaks the next time one side of it updates.
Your version and where it leaves you
Which GP build you are on, how far behind that puts you, and what the upgrade path looks like. Microsoft ships GP feature updates through December 2029 and security patches through April 2031. Argus has committed to supporting the platform through 2036.
Where it runs and what that costs you
On-premise server, hosted, or somewhere in between. Whether your current setup is holding back remote access, month-end performance, or your own IT team. Hosting is often where the real cost sits, and it is rarely where people look first.
What You Walk Away With
Something you can act on, or hand to a board, or file and ignore. All three are fine. It is yours either way.
- A written summary of what we found, in plain language rather than consultant vocabulary.
- A prioritised list of what is worth fixing, and roughly what each one is worth fixing for.
- A scope and an estimate for the work, so you see the number before anyone asks you for a decision.
- An honest read on optimizing what you have versus migrating to Business Central, on your timeline rather than a vendor’s.

How It Works
No portal. No discovery gauntlet. No junior rep reading your answers back to you. Four steps, and most of the work is ours.
-
1
You tell us what is going on
Month-end takes four days too long. A report has never reconciled. Your old partner stopped returning calls. You were told GP is going away and want to know how worried to be. Start anywhere.
-
2
We look at the system
A working session with whoever knows the system best, usually your controller or finance lead. Remote is normal. Most of it happens in one call plus a look at your configuration.
-
3
We write up what we found
Findings, priorities, scope, estimate. If something we found is outside what we do, we say that too rather than stretching to cover it.
-
4
You decide, or you don’t
Optimize, host, migrate, some mix, or nothing at all. There is no follow-up sequence waiting for you. If the answer is not now, the answer is not now.
Why Is It Free?
Because it is the fastest way for both sides to find out whether there is a real engagement here.
We have been in business since 1989 and our clients stay on annual evergreen contracts because the expertise delivers, not because they are locked in. That model only works if the fit is right at the start. An assessment that tells you to change nothing costs us a few hours and saves both of us a bad year.
It also means we are not guessing when we quote. The scope comes out of the assessment, so the estimate is based on your actual system rather than a discovery call and an assumption.
Who This Is For
- Companies running Microsoft Dynamics GP who suspect they are using a fraction of it, and are right.
- Finance teams whose reporting has quietly stopped being trusted, and who are tired of reconciling around it.
- Organisations whose GP partner has retired, been acquired, or simply stopped answering.
- Anyone being told to migrate to Business Central who wants a second opinion on the timing before committing.
- Companies that have outgrown QuickBooks or Sage and want to know what the next step actually involves.
Who This Isn’t For
- Organisations running exclusively on NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle. Our depth is Microsoft’s platform.
- Anyone looking for a free competitive bid to use as leverage with an incumbent partner.
- Teams who need a decision this week. A useful assessment takes a little longer than that.
Questions About the Assessment
Is this really free, or is there a catch somewhere?
Really free. It carries a $1,500 value based on the consulting time involved, and you are not invoiced for it, not asked for a card, and not signed up to anything. You keep the findings whether or not you hire us. The catch, if you want to call it one, is that we think a fair number of the companies who do this end up working with us, and we are content to let the work make that argument.
How long does it take and who needs to be involved?
Usually a working session with whoever knows your system best, most often a controller or finance lead, plus a look at your configuration. Most assessments are done inside a week or two from first contact. Nobody needs to prepare a document for us, and you do not need to pull your whole team into a room.
What should we have ready before the first conversation?
Honestly, not much. Your GP version if you know it, and a sentence about what is frustrating you. That is enough to have a useful first call. If you do not know your version, we will work it out together.
We are not on Dynamics GP. Is this still worth doing?
Yes, if you are on a Microsoft platform or heading toward one. For companies on Business Central the review works the same way. For companies who have outgrown QuickBooks or Sage, it gives you a clear picture of whether you have genuinely hit the ceiling and what a move would involve. If you are committed to NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle, we are not the right people and we will tell you that early rather than late.
Do we need to be in California to work with Argus?
No. We are headquartered in Pasadena but serve companies across the United States and Canada. Remote assessments are how most of this work happens, and for a lot of our clients there has never been a reason for anyone from Argus to get on a plane.
What does it cost to work with Argus once the assessment is done?
Annual contracts start as low as $1,500 per month and bundle hosting and support into one relationship. Focused optimization projects can come in below that. You see the number before you commit, because the assessment is what produces the estimate.
Microsoft is ending GP support. Is it too late to bother?
No, and there is more runway than most people think. Microsoft ships GP feature updates through December 2029 and keeps security patches coming through April 2031, and Argus has separately committed to supporting the platform through 2036, seven years past Microsoft’s own end-of-life date. That is time to plan properly instead of migrating in a panic, and the assessment is where that plan starts.
Where the Assessment Usually Leads
Argus works across six industries and a wider set of accounting and financial system solutions. If you would rather just talk to somebody first, the contact page has every way to reach us.
Start With the Assessment
$1,500 of diagnostic work, at no cost, with no obligation attached to it. You will know more about your own financial system at the end of it than you did at the start, and that is true whether or not you ever hire us.
