About Us

About Argus Consulting Group

An accounting and ERP partner headquartered in Pasadena, California, built on 33 years of Dynamics GP expertise.

Argus Consulting Group is an accounting and ERP partner headquartered in Pasadena, California, built on 33 years of Dynamics GP expertise. We’ve been working with Dynamics GP since 1993 — longer than most partners have been in business.

We help companies running GP get more out of the system they already have. We optimize configurations, automate manual processes, host GP in the cloud, build custom integrations, and handle GP-to-Business Central migrations. What we don’t do is pressure you into any of it. Our clients stay because the advice is honest and the expertise is real.

Stephen Tanner founded Argus in 1989. He brought the firm to Dynamics GP in 1993 because he wanted to specialize — to actually master one platform instead of spreading thin across a dozen. That decision held through two recessions, through COVID, and through Microsoft’s push toward Business Central. Argus stayed on GP because thousands of companies still run it, and those companies deserve a partner who actually knows the system.

Stephen Tanner

Founder

Stephen Tanner started Argus in 1989 as a technology consulting firm. When he discovered Dynamics GP in 1993 — back when it was still called Great Plains — he made a decision that shaped the next three decades: specialize. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Learn one platform deeply enough that when a client calls with a problem, you already know the answer.

Today, Stephen leads a team of senior Dynamics GP consultants who bring 80 years of combined experience across hundreds of client implementations. He still takes calls, still diagnoses systems, and still gets asked the same question by new clients: “Should we stay on GP or migrate to Business Central?”

His answer is always the same: “Tell me about your current system and how it’s working for you.” Then he listens. Then he gives options. That’s the Argus model.

“Software solutions by themselves don’t solve business problems. Improved business processes enhanced by software solutions make a more meaningful difference.”

Our Approach

How Argus Works With Clients

Every engagement starts the same way: we listen. Before we recommend anything — optimization, cloud hosting, migration — we need to understand your system, your team, and what’s actually causing the pain.

We start by understanding what you have

Most companies running Dynamics GP are only using about 30% of what the platform can do. The other 70% is sitting there, already paid for, waiting to be configured. We start with an assessment: what modules are you running, what processes are manual, where is the team spending time that GP could save.

We give you options, not a pitch

After the assessment, we lay out the options. Stay on GP and optimize it. Host it in the cloud. Plan a migration to Business Central. Or some combination of all three. We make money on GP support and BC migration equally — so our advice isn’t driven by which one pays us more.

You work with senior people, not a ticket queue

When you call Argus, you talk directly to the person who solves the problem. Our team has 80 years of combined GP expertise — every consultant has deep experience with the platform. You don’t explain your system from scratch every time. You don’t wait for a ticket to get escalated. You get answers.

We stay with you

Argus clients work with us on annual evergreen contracts that bundle hosting and support into one relationship. When something breaks at month-end close, you pick up the phone and we handle it. When you need a new report built, a new integration configured, or a new team member trained on GP, we’re already there.

As Stephen puts it: “Our clients stay. If they care about the quality of the work, they stay.”

Experience

What 33 Years of GP Experience Actually Means

When a client calls with a problem, our team usually already knows what’s wrong. Not because we’re guessing — because we’ve seen it before. Across hundreds of GP implementations, over 33 years, the same patterns show up. The report that won’t reconcile. The integration that breaks during month-end. The posting error that nobody can trace.

A partner who’s seeing your problem for the first time needs days to diagnose it. A partner who’s solved it fifty times before needs a conversation. That’s the difference experience makes — not just a better answer, but a faster one.

100 → 20

One client came to us spending 100 hours per month on a task. We configured GP and got it down to 20. The value wasn’t in the hours it took us to set it up. It was in the 80 hours per month their team got back — every month, from that point forward.

That’s what 80 years of combined GP expertise across our team actually looks like in practice. Problems get solved faster. Systems get configured right. Your team stops spending time on work that GP was built to handle.

What We Believe

What Argus Stands For

Optimize before you migrate

Most GP users are using 30% of what they own. Before you spend $200K on Business Central, spend a fraction of that actually using what you already paid for. If migration is still the right call after that, we’ll tell you — and handle it.

Non-pressure advice is a business model, not a slogan

We make revenue from GP support contracts and from BC migration projects. Both. That means we have no financial incentive to push you toward one or the other. You get honest options, and you decide.

The GP end-of-life deadline is not a crisis

Microsoft supports GP through December 2029 with full updates, and security patches continue through April 2031. That gives you time to plan. Time to optimize. Time to make a smart decision instead of a panicked one.

Expertise takes time to build. There are no shortcuts.

Our team has 80 years of combined Dynamics GP experience. You can’t hire that. You can’t shortcut that. You can’t simulate it by passing a certification test. It comes from working with hundreds of GP systems across healthcare, nonprofit, manufacturing, financial services, and distribution for more than three decades.

The Argus GP Pledge: Dynamics GP supported through 2036. Modernize on your timeline.

GP Support Through 2036

Argus commits to supporting Dynamics GP through 2036 — seven years beyond Microsoft’s end-of-life date. While other partners exit, Argus stays.
