The Argus 10-Year Commitment is our pledge to support Dynamics GP through 2036, past Microsoft’s own 2029 end of support. Here’s what it covers, what’s still open, and what to ask any partner who makes a similar promise.
TL;DR. Microsoft’s GP support, including tax updates, ends December 31, 2029. Security updates run to April 30, 2031. Argus has committed to supporting GP through 2036. A pledge like that is only as useful as its fine print, so we’re laying out what we can say today, what’s still being defined, and what to ask anyone, including us, who offers you one.
You’ve probably heard that nobody will support GP once Microsoft stops. Stephen Tanner, our founder, says that claim is “actually false.” If you run GP and need to know who’s accountable for it after 2029, our Dynamics GP support and optimization page covers how we work. Here’s the longer version.
Why we made the commitment
Argus has supported Dynamics GP since 1993. That’s 33 years. Stephen puts it as “30 plus years” of experience with the product, and he sees no reason the work stops when a vendor date passes.
So we put a date on it. Through 2036, and he says beyond. Stephen considers 10 years a fair number. We also handle Business Central migrations in-house, so a client who decides to move isn’t forced to change partners.
What Microsoft’s dates actually mean
Microsoft uses the term end of support, and per its GP lifecycle page, GP support, tax updates included, ends December 31, 2029, while security updates run to April 30, 2031 and the product then stops getting any Microsoft coverage at all. Past those dates, it’s on your partner.
It doesn’t mean the software stops running. Your copy keeps working. Really. What changes is who stands behind it.
That’s where a partner commitment comes in. It’s a promise about people and time, and it isn’t a promise that Microsoft will keep shipping updates.
What sits underneath GP
GP runs on other software, and that software has its own dates, which come from Microsoft’s lifecycle data, although which versions GP supports is a separate question that we haven’t confirmed yet.
| Platform | Mainstream support ends | Extended support ends |
|---|---|---|
| SQL Server 2022 | January 12, 2028 | January 12, 2033 |
| SQL Server 2025 | January 7, 2031 | January 7, 2036 |
| Windows Server 2022 | October 14, 2026 | October 15, 2031 |
| Windows Server 2025 | November 14, 2029 | November 15, 2034 |

SQL Server 2019’s extended support runs to January 8, 2030. Notice the pattern. Nothing lasts forever. Even a current server operating system reaches the end of its extended support before 2036. A 10-year GP commitment has to account for that. Plan on infrastructure upgrades along the way. They’re coming. If you’d rather not run that hardware yourself, our Dynamics GP cloud hosting takes much of that work off your team.

The hard part is tax and regulatory updates
Software you can keep running. Tax law won’t wait. Neither will payroll. That’s the gap. Stephen expects organizations to pick up payroll and tax updates as a service once Microsoft’s support ends, and he calls that “pretty likely,” with the caveat that details aren’t settled.
Here’s why it matters. A commitment to support GP through 2036 has to say what happens to tax tables, year-end forms, and filings in 2030 and after, and if a partner can’t answer that plainly before you sign, then the date is marketing and not a plan.
How to read any partner’s pledge
Other partners have published pledges of their own and the end dates differ, but a date on its own tells you very little, so ask every one of these questions before you decide whose promise to trust. Dates are cheap.
- What does the support include, and what does it exclude?
- Who answers the phone, and do I get the same person each time?
- What happens to tax and regulatory updates after Microsoft stops?
- What happens to the infrastructure underneath GP as it ages?
- What does it cost, and is that price written down?
- What happens if I decide to migrate to Business Central partway through?
Ask us all six. Check us. Don’t just trust us.

If you’re comparing partners because yours is leaving, read the questions to ask before switching Dynamics GP partners, and if yours has already retired, start with what to do next.
What we’d do differently if GP isn’t right for you
A commitment to GP isn’t a commitment to keep you on it. Different thing. Stephen says Argus is willing to help you evaluate other options. If a different system fits your business better, we’ll tell you.
That’s the point of the pledge. It takes the deadline out of the decision. You can stay, optimize, host, or move on a schedule that suits your business. And if a partner is already pushing you toward a move, read what to do when your GP partner pushes a migration.
Questions about the Argus 10-Year Commitment
What does the Argus 10-Year Commitment cover?
It’s Argus’s pledge to support Dynamics GP through 2036, beyond Microsoft’s December 31, 2029 end of support for the product. The exact scope, including tax updates and infrastructure, is still being defined, so ask us for it in writing before you rely on it.
Will anyone support GP after Microsoft stops?
Argus will, and our commitment to support GP runs through 2036. Stephen Tanner calls the idea that nobody will support GP beyond Microsoft’s dates “actually false.” Tax and regulatory updates are the open question, and he considers third-party providers for them likely but not yet defined.
Does the commitment mean we have to stay on GP?
No, because the commitment is meant to take the deadline out of your decision. It removes the pressure, and Argus also handles Business Central migrations in-house. If another system fits your business better, we’re willing to help you evaluate it.
How long has Argus supported Dynamics GP?
Argus has supported Dynamics GP since 1993, which is 33 years. That experience is the basis for the commitment, though a long track record doesn’t replace asking for the support terms in writing.
What should I ask a partner who offers a similar pledge?
Ask what’s included, who answers, how tax updates and aging infrastructure get handled, what it costs, and what happens if you migrate. Compare those answers before you compare end dates, because a date with no terms behind it doesn’t tell you much.
